Ink smudges in the rain.

Pluviophile (n) a lover of rain; someone who finds joy and peace of mind during rainy days

— Oxford English Dictionary

This is the first post on my new blog. I’m just getting this new blog going, so stay tuned for more. Subscribe below to get notified when I post new updates.

So what’s with the name you might be asking? Well, thinking of a blog name is hard and I needed something different. It’s also a call back to some of my old online handles that were tagged with ‘dancing in the rain’. But now I’m older, wiser(ish) and more prone to colds than my MySpace and DeviantArt days, I’ve gone for an update, while still being reminiscent of what got me into posting online in the first place. Fair warning, you better activate your cheesiness-shields because those things are basically for the fun and love of creating something. The most satisfying things I do are write stories for friends, run role play games and paint toy soldiers; so why not do more of the thing I love here on the wild expanse of the ‘net? Yeah, I told you it would be cheesy.

Okay so all that backstory is well and good, but all I want to know with diminishing need is why did you pick Ink smudges in the rain for a writing and personal blog? Isn’t that kind of angst-sounding?

Now it would be, if the rain wasn’t quite so relaxing, beating against the windows with the winds howling as I curl up in front of my monitor, alternating between typing and sipping smoked tea. Earl Grey or Lapsang Souchong if you’re interested. Walking in the rain too is fun. Unless you’re carrying books or a notebook filled with scrawls in black ink. Turns out, ink smudges in the rain and renders everything illegible. But you know what doesn’t smudge in the rain? A blog. See what happened there? So we come full circle and there you have the reasoning behind the name, sans backstory!

Rain also turns all the city and car lights into something akin to a cyberpunk city or Christmas, another reason for me loving it. Optimist right here.

What’s going to be on the blog then?

Asides from rambles about how cosy I find the rain, there’s going to be other personal/lifestyle segments, ranging in topics from travel, to relationships, to what recipes I’m enjoying at the minute. This is all fun cushioning to the main reason for me starting this blog…

So the primary focus of this blog will be for writing fiction. From current projects of mine, the process of self-publication, advice and excerpts from my work – some short stories and poetry may feature too.

Here’s to the exciting start of this adventure together; let me know what you think in the comments!
